The clock of doom by Martyl Langsdorf, wife of a
Manhattan Project physicist was originally created fifty-
five years ago as cover picture of a magazine, to reflect
a changing perception of occurring global events that
threatens world peace with the birth and proliferation
of the nuclear bomb.
It was later conceived by an association of nuclear
physicists as an indicator, and accepted by the world to
become the most recognizable ticking symbol of a nuclear
danger.
Usually, the clock hands moved and ticked clockwise
up and demonstrated a growing peril of man's destruction
and his ultimate destiny. Its hands were set several times,
minutes closer to midnight, which indicated the world was
closest to doomsday and the final hour of Armageddon.
Every tick counted.
The nearest was in 1947 when the minute hand of the
clock was moved three minutes before midnight. It was
during this time when Joseph Stalin of Russia ordered the
military invasion of Eastern Europe that later formed the
communist union of Soviet Russia. It was also at this time
when China turned into communism.
Both possessed nuclear capabilities like the United
States. The ideological division between the communist
east and democratic west crafted the cold war.
Another incident was the Cuban missile crisis in
October 1962. This event also prompted the association
of nuclear physicists who handle the clock, to set it three
minutes before midnight when the United States felt the
danger of being attacked by the communist regime of the
USSR.
The government in Washington reacted frantically
after finding out that the Soviets had shipped offensive
war materials- medium range missiles to American close
door neighbor, Cuba.
America blockaded the sea surrounding the island
that brought the world to a standstill.
Serious negotiations between the two governments
averted what could have been,World War III.
However, for some positive changes that predisposed the
minute hand time from moving up towards the hour, there
were treaties signed as the 1972 Anti-Ballistic Missile (ABM)
Treaty agreed upon by the United States and the USSR to
limit the implementation of their antiballistic missile systems.
Another major development was a 1998 Nuclear Non-
Proliferation Treaty recognized by 197 different government
entities, which agreed commitments to non-nuclear
development and disarmament pledges that lessened the
dangers of nuclear war.
During the cold war, Russia developed an ABM system
around Moscow and the United States had its own system
built, centered in North Dakota. However, both nations
closed some of their systems down due to high cost of
maintenance, which resulted to an agreement that limited
further development and implementation of existing plans.
The event made steps forward to the right direction of
peace that countered the clock of doom.
Nevertheless, in 2001, the administration of the United
States announced it was unilaterally withdrawing from this
ABM treaty and called for the creation of another rudimentary
missile defense system to realign itself from evolving political,
economic, and global changes.
Some critics, wary of the decision called this action
threatening and manipulative because other nations
interpreted it as a move by the United States toward a
first-strike strategy and world supremacy.
This eventually caused serious repercussions globally
hat timed the Langsdorf clock ticking towards seven
minutes totwelve midnight, on February 27, 2002, the
third time it clocked forward since its debut.
At present, it remains at seven minutes closer to the
zero hour, but other catastrophic events and political
crises that followed may push the minute hand yet even
further forward to doomsday, the final hour of
Armageddon.
The War of Attrition Between Palestine and Israel
September 11, 2001, The World Trade Bombing
Osama's Al Qaeda
America's War on Terror
US-led Military Invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq
Uncontrollable Oil Price Hike
The Crumbling World Market and World Economies
Political Row between US and China over Taiwan
Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons in Asia
The war of attrition between Palestine and Israel, which
started in May 1948 after the latter occupied Jerusalem and
declared independence, is one of the longest conflicts in the
world.
Before then, Arabs and Jews lived in peace in the region.
However, when Israel occupied many Arab territories in
1967, it gained notoriety in the Middle East and marked a
turning point in history, which greatly affected peace in the
region and the world at large.
Israel's alliance with America became a critical issue to
world peace.
The Palestinians declared the 1987 intifadas, which means
literally in Arabic, shaking off, and an uprising against Israeli
occupation began. Religious fanaticism grew that saw America
and Israel, occupier of 'The Promised Land' , enemies of Islam...
And from then, terrorism was born.
This uprising became the mother of all conflicts this century,
which spawned other fearful events, literally shaking off the
world, warning humanity, and reminding us that if it continues
unabated, the clock of doom would tell us...
It is time.
Now, only a glint is enough and the coming of the end
would be delivered.
A spark of any untoward event could ignite the world
to a destructive force no human has ever seen and no
word could ever describe.
Death would be massive.
Humanity would see its own annihilation. Every living
soul in the planet lucky enough to survive would have a
tale to tell with the coming.
This is my story.

from the author
This novel is purely a work of fiction. Nevertheless, some of the events mentioned in the story may have already happened and though imaginary characters depicted here rolled around these events, any resemblance to actual names of persons, living or deceased, real events and locales, is wholly coincidental.
Of Passion Play is humbly, my masterpiece.
It is my first book and though I've conceptualized the plot of the story a long time in the past, drawing the ornate first letter and writing the concluding word of the epilogue took almost a year to complete. The initial manuscript was edited, rewritten and re-edited several times for another five months until the final piece is done. But, publication became a standing block, a high wall to scale specially for first-time authors like myself wishing to have this printed. So, I decided to change strategy and transcribe Of Passion Play from traditional paperback format to a version in computerbytes and codes for viewing in the internet. I 've presented here as an overview of the book, excerpts from some exciting chapters which I hope you'll like.
